Good Riddance 2020 (Annus Horribilis)
From my own perspective 2020 was a difficult year, which tested everyone in various ways.
To be in lockdown twice was difficult for many, as socialisation was mainly done via the internet and computer.I much rather talk individually and on the phone.My children all worked from home so did Greg.
I had more work than usual and helped with home schooling , going out nearly every day, so my sanity prevailed.
The eeriness of the first weeks was creepy as streets were quiet and shopping centres empty.The days soon melted into one as we held our breath for the next announcement of restrictions, new outbreaks and the battle of the blame game.
Here in Australia we were lucky to nearly eradicate it as the northern hemisphere seemed to crumble and hesitate making decisions about lockdowns and mandatory mask wearing.
Even now I wonder if we will ever get back to normality as pre covid.A new cluster has emerged and the uneasiness of what lies ahead is unnerving.Hopefully a vaccine in 2021 will help everyone bite the bullet and get on with our lives once more.
For me I Look back and it seems minor that, a son's wedding was postponed, another son's wedding cannot be planned due to overseas quarantine and flight restrictions. I lost a brother in April and a funeral hasn't been held as the children are unable to get to Victoria due to border closures and quarantine rules. This was really sad and even having the ashes delivered by post was irreverant.
Not having our usual family get togethers for birthdays and other celebrations was lonely and sad, but my family is healthy and all seem happy as we finally came together for Christmas.Hopefully 2021 can be joyful and uneventful Covid wise as no one wants another Annus Horribulis.
My heart goes out to the many people separated from their loved ones whether here in Australia or overseas. It must be especially trying at this time of year, the uncertainty of when travel will resume.
